I've recently been trying to analyse my performance, and I noticed that a single call to ClipmapView::GetMeshHeight turned my framerate from 60 fps to 20. Is there a faster alternative to this function?

There are faster alternatives if you are in Unity and UE4, since you can use their native raycasting.

It is also not clear why you would experience a drop to 20fps from calling this function. The OpenGL demos call this function every frame too, do you get 20fps on the demos as well?
